Oviedo just 20 minutes away: nature and city in a perfect getaway

The Senda del Oso is one of the best known and most beautiful green routes in Asturias. Easy route, spectacular scenery, tunnels, gorges, bears and everything that makes a getaway in nature special.
It is about 20-25 minutes by car from our Apartamentos Rurales Aires del Aramo, which makes it an ideal excursion to do in a day, as a couple or as a family.
📍 Where does the Bear Trail begin?
The complete route goes from Tuñón to Entrago, in the council of Teverga. It is approximately 30 km of old railway track converted into a cycling and pedestrian path.
The best known accesses are:
- Tuñón: classic start, with bicycle rental and parking.
- Proaza: a must to see the bear enclosure.
- Entrago: end of route (or start if you do the reverse route).
🚴 Can it be done by bike?
Yes, in fact most visitors do the Senda del Oso by bicycle, as it is very flat and well conditioned. There are rental companies that provide the service and even pick you up at the end.
- Distance: between 18 and 30 km, depending on the chosen section.
- Difficulty: easy (children from 7-8 years old no problem).
- Cycling time: between 2 and 3 hours.
You can also do it on foot, ideal for a leisurely stroll along 5-10 km stretches.
🐻 Why is it called “Senda del Oso”?
The name comes from the Cercado de los osos, an area of the trail where Paca, Molina and Furaco live: three bears in semi-freedom that cannot live in the wild.
This point is a must stop, especially if you go with children. There are recreational areas, explanatory panels and good rest areas.

- Peñas Juntas Gorge
- Old iron bridges and tunnels
- Trubia River accompanying almost all the way.
- Cool wooded stretches ideal in summer
The route is very safe, with no motorized traffic and shade along much of the route.
📅 Practical advice
- Avoid weekends if you are looking for more peace and quiet.
- Bring water, sun protection and a light jacket (even if it is summer).
- Advance bike reservation in high season
- If you go with small children, it is better to choose only one section (Tuñón-Proaza for example).
